SUZHOU
Suzhou is one of the oldest cities in the Yangzi’s basin. The city’s design, crossed by its canals and water,
turned Suzhou into the East’s Venice, that’s how Marco Polo described it in 1272 when he first visited it.
Zhuozheng Yuan or the Humble Administrator’s Garden was finished during the Ming Dynasty (XVI
Century). Its reputation places it as one of the four most beautiful gardens in China. All of them melt
nature, arquitecture and design in a proportioned group. Zhuozheng Yuan gathers all the elements
that were included traditionally in the gardens’ design: ponds, small islands, bridges, pavilions and
miniatures. Besides, the garden shelters one of the most important collections of bonsai in Asia.
In spite of being carefully designed, its primary objective was to create the illusion of a natural landscape
based in moss, sand and rocks.
